Message from our Director

Welcome to the Indiana Area Health Education Centers Network (IN AHEC)! We partner across Indiana to improve healthcare access and outcomes in rural and underserved communities. Through collaboration, innovation, and workforce development, we are building a stronger, more accessible healthcare system for all Hoosiers. The IN AHEC Network advances this mission through four key focus areas:

Healthcare Workforce Development: We create pathways into health careers for students across the state. From K–12 through professional practice, we provide career exploration, clinical training, community-based experiences, and professional development that support long-term success in the healthcare workforce.

Academic-Community Connector: We serve as a bridge between academic institutions and community partners (including healthcare providers, health systems, nonprofits, government agencies, and professional organizations) to address healthcare access challenges across Indiana’s underserved urban and rural communities.

Workforce Evaluation and Research: We design and deliver program evaluations and research initiatives related to healthcare workforce development. Our focus areas include academic-community partnerships, programs to enrich the healthcare workforce, and the ongoing monitoring and assessment of program outcomes.

Health Systems Enrichment: We offer unique learning opportunities for individuals to enhance their capacity to shape the future of healthcare systems. This includes focusing on interprofessional practice and education, integration of behavioral health, transformation of healthcare practices, community health, understanding social determinants of health, and staying abreast of emerging healthcare issues.

Building a healthcare workforce that serves every Indiana community is a shared effort. We are grateful for our partners across the state and invite you to join us as we work together to make high-quality healthcare accessible for all.
